Do you know of any free Wifi Hotspots?
Written on January 24, 2008 by Conor O'Neill
James Corbett is building a map of Wifi Hotspots around the country. Whilst they can be free or non-free, I hope we can identify as many free ones as possible first. I’ve added the ones I know of in Cork and indicated whether they are publicly accessible locations or not.
If you know of any, please spread the love and add a push-pin to the map. You should also include any FON hotspots that you know of.
UPDATE 1: Don’t forget Eircom’s map of their hotspots. These currently cost me nothing as an Eircom broadband subscriber. Hopefully they will extend the scheme indefinitely.
UPDATE 2: Also don’t forget the map of FON Hotspots. These are free for Linus FONeros and cheap for others. There aren’t many in Ireland but hopefully we’ll grow it more.

Cheers Conor. I read your comment where you were looking for an RSS feed and thanks to OpenGeo’s KML tip and a clever Yahoo! Pipe I’ve come up with the following -
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?KMLFeedURL=http%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%2Fms%3Fie%3DUTF8%26hl%3Den%26om%3D0%26msa%3D0%26msid%3D112855554048460880778.0004358aea20ba94cba25%26z%3D6%26output%3Dkml&_id=QAEgr2Oj3BGEQQ7sjUnRlg&_render=rss
Clicking on a feed item doesn’t unfortunately open up the corresponding hotspot on a map but at least you can get notifications and then check the bottom of the list on the map to see.
That’s exactly what I wanted James thanks!
