Great stuff from Jan on cheaply launching a web-app in Ireland
Written on February 1, 2007 by Conor O'Neill
Jan over at Touristr has written a really useful post on spending as little as possible on building a web-app here.
We’ve avoided going down the bank loan route as we assumed that a pre-launch start-up would have a hard time securing one. The Seed Capital Scheme is definitely worth a look and the Feasibility Study Grant really is fantastic.

Thanks Conor. I also assumed than bank loan was not for us and asked without much conviction especially as I was not ready to personnaly guaratee the loan and did not have a close relationship with my bank mannager. Must have been a lucky day!!
I got a 20k business overdraft from Ulster last year and they insisted on a personal guarantee. Not only that but they told me I was lucky they didn’t insist on security.
I’ve seen some of the banks offering unsecured small-business loans up to 60k. Does anyone know what criteria they use to approve them?
Back in August, I heard a radio ad from AIB promoting unsecured bizzness loans up to 65k for start ups. I took an appointment and their representant told me that this was really only for the ad! In the real world the’re looking for guarantees!!
Ah banks, Why do I always think of the Sopranos every time I go into one.
